All right, I'll be right back.
Speaker 2:Well, I'm going to ask this question because I deal with epilepsy, and so I was curious on how could touch therapy, reflexology, help with epilepsy um, I love that question.
Speaker 2:That's it, yeah because I, because you, I um take, I'm on so many type of different medications. Sure, I'm on zanacemide and I'm on Lamotrigine, but the side effects of those medications one of them, which I actually talked about in an Instagram post that I posted on my page was short-term memory loss, and that was one of the things that my neurologist she told me that was going to happen. Because of that, the medication that I had to take, and it was a thing of either I take this medication and control the seizures or I have to have brain surgery, you know, and that was just like oh yeah, I went to have the brain surgery. So I elected just to, you know, continue to take the medication. So I was trying to figure out is there a way to touch, you know, reflexology? How can that? Could that?
Speaker 3:help. Think about it. When you're talking about epilepsy, you're talking about the nervous system. You're talking about the nerve endings that are doing what? Overworking. They're overworking, which means they're never stopping, and when they're overworking, what happens? All of a sudden, you go into a seizure, and so what allopathic medicine looks at? We got to stop the overworking, but what's causing the overworking of the nerve endings? That's not what's being addressed, so, which means that you have to be what? In a calm state. We got to calm you down. We got to show you how to relax, and once we can get you in a state of relaxation, now what can we do? We can now look at what is it the nervous system is in need of, what is it asking you for in order for it to get back to its normal state?
Speaker 3:Wow so when we're talking about reflexology and I say relieving pain first. What I want you to understand I don't care whatever the illness is that you're diagnosed with. The body will never heal itself, no matter what medication you're on, no matter what therapy you're on, no matter what treatment you're doing, until it's in a state of rest and relaxation. And if the body is not in a state of rest and relaxation, it will never be able to heal itself.
Speaker 1:Wow.
Speaker 3:And because we live in what a stress-intensified lifestyle that our eyes are seeing, we get caught up in that. And what is that doing? It's tripping us up, mm-hmm, and it's creating illnesses that don't necessarily have to be a part of our life. When we understand the healing power of touch that each and every one of us has in our hands. And let me give you an example of what I mean when I say that. Everybody listening, at some point in time in your life you have done reflexology and you have received reflexology, and you don't know that you have. And it goes all the way back to as a child, or either you as a parent doing this to a child. It's called this little piggy, and if you remember that, this little piggy went to the market and this little piggy stayed home and you're turning the little toes backward and forward and all of the nerve endings to your head are in your fingers and in your toes and just by activating those nerve endings it relaxes the whole body.
Speaker 2:Wow.
Speaker 3:And that right. There is the process, and if you think about it as it relates to a baby, the baby maybe start giggling and feeling a little happy, or if the baby's real hyper and needs to calm down, it'll start calming down. If the energy level is low, it can elevate it. So what we're talking about is using the power inside your hands to bring about relief from the stress that is overworking the nerve endings in terms of being able to communicate with the brain most effectively in relieving pain and stress.
Speaker 2:Wow.
Speaker 3:It's a part of our makeup. This is who we are as a people. We are a touching people and because of the pandemic, we have all of a sudden gotten away from that which sustains us and my unscientific study as it relates to being in lockdown because of the pandemic. Most of the people who made transition probably made that transition because of the fact that they were not able to experience the touch in some kind of way from their loved ones, from their friends, from their family. And touch does not have to be anything physical. It could just be me being able to see you, just to see a smile on your face, just to hear you say a kind and loving word. That's touch and that's healing. That's how you bring about healing.
Speaker 2:Wow, I know you were saying that we were living in a stressful type world and it's hard for us to stay in a state of calm. So what advice would you give to my listeners to help them stay in a state of calm?
Speaker 3:The first thing I'm going to say is you're going to have to give value to who you are. Okay, you're going to have to give value to who you are. Okay, you're going to have to give value to yourself. And when I say give value, you're going to have to see your body as being one of two things Is your body a warehouse, where you just store stuff and just throw in there, or is your body a temple, something sacred and precious? If it's sacred and precious, the first gift you're going to give to yourself is I love you.
Speaker 3:You're going to love yourself, and when I say this, what I'm saying is you are not the titles or the labels that's given to you. That's not who you are. The only label that you own, that belongs to you is your name and the reason why that label is so important because behind that label there's a story, there's something sacred behind the name that you hold. That's the only label that you have, and when you understand and start accepting that as who you are, that's where you start beginning the journey of taking back control of your life from all of the pain and stress that exists according to what our eyes are seeing, because you have to become, when you understand yourself in the form of really loving who you are and understanding that you are, that you see your body as a temple and something sacred. You must remember that what your eyes see is not real. What your eyes see is only a delusion. Because you are in a spirit and because you are a spirit, you are at the highest manifestation of who you are created to be. Because that's who you are and that's who we are, as the people we were created to be, understand that we have been through so much and because we've been through so much, we are I'm going to change this word we are seen as being traumatized, but the traumatized that we are seen as being does not define who we are and the experiences that we're going through, because all that's happened to us, no matter what it is, it's nothing but a life lesson that we have to learn.
Speaker 3:And once we learn that life lesson, just like life changes, you get a new one. That's all it is. It's called an evolution. That's all it is. It's called an evolution. So, whatever illness that you may have, understand that it's nothing but a life lesson, experience that you are going through, and if you trust yourself, you trust who you are. You believe in who you are. You'll get through this with flying colors, and that's what you want. That's where you begin. You begin by impact, because can't nobody empower you and can't nobody heal you but you. You are your own healer, and that's where healing begins.
Speaker 2:Wow, amen, wow, that is amazing, wow, wow. So I am going to shift gears a little bit and going to ask you this question real quick. So how do you see holistic wellness integrating with traditional health care systems, traditional health care system.
Speaker 3:It can integrate very well when you understand your body. And when you understand your body, you're understanding from the standpoint of making the choices of how you want to receive your healing and from a holistic approach. It's also cultural. See, this is another thing. When we start talking about alternative healing, we have to look at who we are culturally. And culturally we are hands-on healing people and that's the healing that heals us. And when we talk about it from the standpoint of conventional medicine, conventional medicine dismisses the cultural connection, but the cultural connection is crucial for us as a people in our healing process.
Speaker 3:And when we understand and accept our healing power based on the power of touch, it will be an easy integration. Because, think about it, If you if I'm going to deal with it, say I'm going to deal with from what's defined as the spiritual essence, Back in the day you would go to church and when you went to church they had what was called the laying on of hands. The laying on of hands is nothing but an alternative form of using the power of touch to heal. It's the same concept. If it worked in the church with the laying on hands, the same thing will work with you If your mother, your father, your best friend, your cousin does a laying on of hands, it's the same concept.
Speaker 2:It's the same concept? Yeah, yeah, that's true. That's true. Have you faced resistance from the medical community in reference to your holistic wellness approach?
Speaker 3:I'm a rebel rouser so I could care less. I'm at the point in my life right now where it doesn't really matter, because my mission is to be about helping to empower people with an alternative, and it's a choice. People make a choice to choose the alternatives and if they choose the alternatives, I'm here to help you find that practitioner who will do that for you. If you choose to deal with conventional medicine and you just maybe want to test the waters for the alternatives, I'm here for that. I mean, I don't tell anybody stop taking your medication. I don't tell anybody not to see conventional medicine practices. The thing that I'm seeing is, use the power that you have, be in control of your healing process. I'm your ambassador, I'm your cheerleader for you being in control of the way that you select to heal your mind, your body and your spirit from a holistic approach. Right.
Speaker 2:Now, um, as we kind of wrap up, so can you share some simple reflexology techniques for listeners that they can use, I guess, like in their everyday lives, that they're dealing with some type of pain or anything like that nature.
Speaker 3:I'm going to show you if you can see my hand. The first thing you're going to do, you're going to take your thumb and you're going to do what's called a walking. All you're doing is bending your thumb. It's a walking technique. You're going to put your thumb on the, on the palm of your hands, starting at your wrist, and all you're going to do is walk up the palm. Go down the palm, walk up and you're moving toward the base of your fingers or the palm of your hand. Now, you don't know the exact reflex point area, and that's not important. What you're doing is activating the nerve endings to be about relaxing you, putting you in a state of rest and relaxation so you can calm yourself. You do this on the palm. You also do it walking each of your fingers. You can walk. As you do it on the palm, you can do the same thing on the back of your hand, and all you're doing is walking.
Speaker 3:When you do this, the one thing you want to remember to always do is take a deep breath, breathe in and then breathe out. While you're doing this, as you're doing this, if your energy level is high and needs to come down, it will bring it down. If your energy level is low and you need to be elevated up, it will do this. Because what you're doing and just get in the habit, no matter where you are, just start walking. If you start feeling really hyper or you start feeling tense, just go to the palm of your hand and just start walking, get in the habit of walking and breathing, walking and breathing. And what you're doing is I'm relaxing, I'm releasing, I'm letting go of the tightness, I'm letting go of the tension, I'm bringing a stress-free feeling to my mind, to my body, to my spirit, as you're walking the palm of your hands. That's an empowerment movement and that's something basic. You can teach this to young people and get them to start doing this to you, because now we got an exchange, we got an energy exchange going on. That makes it even more powerful and that's what I do with my clients.
Speaker 3:When they come to me, what I do first is I give them the first tool of touch, which is listening. I listen to them talk about their pain problem, because what I'm listening for is because I want to find out where the stress is. When I find out the stress now we move to the reflexology. And when I work with them. I do like maybe a series of five. I teach them how they can do the reflexology for their particular health problem on their hands and on their feet. After that, we've now been able to calm down and relieve the pain. Now they're open to looking at a treatment plan, which means now we're going to put the integrative approaches of the various therapies that to address what is the cause of that pain problem.
Speaker 3:So my suggestion to everyone listening as we come to the conclusion, what I want to leave with your audience to understand, is that you want to be in control of what you do to heal yourself, and the first thing that you need to do, there are two very powerful healing words that you need to always remember to say each and every day, and it's called being in gratitude.
Speaker 3:Being in gratitude, and the two most powerful healing words are thank you. When you wake up in the morning, wake up giving thanks, thank the universe for this new day that you are blessed to receive, no matter what goes on. Give thanks, then, what you want to do, you want to understand that, no matter what is going on, know that it is the power of touch that heals all. And when you understand that you're now taking your steps, slowly but surely, to empower yourself, to become your own healer. Wow, and that's the concept you want to deal with. And before I leave, I want to share with you. In the African tradition, when you visit somebody's home for the first time, you bring a gift, and I have a gift for you and your listeners and that gift is I have created gift for you and your listeners, and that gift is I have created what is called a medication-free pain and stress relief poster that you can download.
Speaker 3:All you do is go to touchologyreflexologycom and download the poster and it will show you some various techniques and various practices on how to relieve stress medication free. And that's my thank you gift that I have spent here to be able to share information with you and your listeners.
Speaker 2:Thank you so much. I really appreciate that. Thank you so much. My listeners would really appreciate that. And thank you for just sharing your knowledge with reflexology touchology. You've shared so much insight and I am definitely going to continue to rewatch this episode myself and then we can practice that, practice the walking with the hand that way, because I know when I get stressed I don't need to get stressed, because that definitely causes that, brings on episodes, and so that definitely helped me especially to lower, you know, lower my stress level. Make sure I don't have any type of episodes, because what I do and I know we have to go everybody um what I, what I would do is, if I'm stressed, I would just take a deep breath and breathe in, breathe out, trying to just calm myself down like, okay, yes, but that will definitely help me a whole lot.
Speaker 2:Thank you so much.
Speaker 3:You said much and the other thing I want to share with your listeners. My website is focusonhealingcom, and I encourage you go on my website and click the contact page and ask me any questions that you may have about relieving pain and I will get back to you, because that's why I created that to be here for you. So don't hesitate. Any questions that you may have, just write it down. I will definitely get back to you with answers and ways that I can help you, because I'm here for you, just like you've been here for me during this podcast.
Speaker 2:Thank you so much. And then again you said with the poster what was it was, it's touchologyreflexologycom. Touchologyreflexologycom.
Speaker 3:And that's the download link and it'll open up for you to see. I have a poster right then and there.
Speaker 2:Okay, all right, I will go ahead and put it in the chat and um, when our in the uh link my description so everybody can see it, and then I'll put your website as well all right, thank you, and I thank everyone for your time thank you so much um to my audience out there.
Speaker 2:I hope you guys enjoyed it and um, I will let you know when this episode is available and that way, um you can share it as well with your podcast listeners and, uh, your friends and family and out. Thank you, guys so much. We didn't know you yet.
